Popular Horse Racing Bet Types
Here’s a list of the most common types of horse racing bet.
Single Bet
A bet on one selection in a single race. For a win bet, if the horse wins, you win. You can place win or each-way single bets.
Double Bet
A bet on two selections in different races. Both must win for the bet to pay out, or both place if it’s an each-way double (this applies to all each-way multiple bets with more than one selection).
Treble Bet
A treble is a bet on three horses running in different races. All three selections will need to win, or be placed for an each-way or place bet, in order for a win to be achieved.
Accumulator Bet
A bet involving four or more selections across different races.
Each-Way Bet
A bet split into two: one for the horse to win, and the other for the horse to place in the top positions. Each-way bets can be placed for single or multiple bets.
Specialised Horse Racing Bet Types
Patent
A bet on three selections, consisting of seven individual bets (three singles, three doubles, and one treble).
Trixie
A bet on three selections and includes four individual bets (three doubles and one treble).
Yankee
A bet consisting of 11 individual bets on four selections (six doubles, four trebles, and one fourfold accumulator).
Lucky 15
This is a Yankee with an additional four single bets, totalling 15 bets on four selections.
Super Yankee (Canadian)
A bet on five selections consisting of 26 individual bets (10 doubles, 10 trebles, five fourfolds, and one fivefold accumulator).
Heinz
A bet on six selections, which results in 57 individual bets (15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, six fivefolds, and one sixfold accumulator).
Super Heinz
A bet on seven selections, comprising 120 bets (21 doubles, 35 trebles, 35 fourfolds, 21 fivefolds, seven sixfolds, and one sevenfold accumulator).
Goliath
A massive bet on eight selections, resulting in 247 individual bets (28 doubles, 56 trebles, 70 fourfolds, 56 fivefolds, 28 sixfolds, eight sevenfolds, and one eightfold accumulator).
Pool Betting Options
Placepot
A pool bet where you must pick a horse to place in each of the first six races at a meeting.
Jackpot
A bet where you pick the winners of six designated races, usually with high payouts.
Quadpot
Similar to the Placepot, but you only need to pick a horse to place in the last four races
